Vaping has been endorsed by health experts after the first long-term study of its effects in ex-smokers. E-Cigarettes contain nicotine which is mixed with the e-liquids however not many of the harmful substances of which are produced by smoking tobacco, such as tar or carbon monoxide. There has been a debate with regards to exactly how safe long-term use is.
The latest study involved 181 smokers or ex-smokers and it has been described as the landmark case study as it is thought to have been the first looking at the long-term vaping outcomes in the real world. Previous studies of this nature ultimately relied upon laboratory equipment and animal research whereas this study has been used with volunteers of 181 individuals.
The volunteers completed a number of questionnaires and provided breath, saliva and urine samples. The team of researchers found significantly lower levels of toxic chemicals and cancer-causing substances in the samples of the former smokers who had been using e-cigarettes compared to current smokers. This evidently shows a huge advantage of smoking e-liquids in comparison to cigarettes.
Another area to be noted is with regards to the result that current smokers looking to quite not only have added health benefits with smoking e-cigarettes but its also a huge money saver.
The study completed provides clear evidence that e-cigarettes when using TPD certified e-liquids can reduce harm to smokers by reducing their exposure to toxic chemicals. The evidence would also seem to support Public Health Englands 2015 report that “E-cigarettes are 95% less harmful than tobacco”.
